The UK Data Service provides access to, and support for, the use of an extensive range of key economic and social data, spanning many disciplines and themes. Find out about us.
Our search and browse application, Discover, provides access to data and related resources, such as case studies, support guides and publications. Discover contains over 6,000 digital data collections for research and teaching purposes.
Using our data
Anyone can register for our service but access to our resources may differ depending on your affiliation.
Yes you can. All academics can use our data free of charge for purposes related to their studies or academic work, e.g. research projects, teaching. However, if you are not in the UK some of our resources may not be available to you. See restrictions on access for details.
Students at UK institutions of higher or further education (UK HE/FE), can register with us using the username and password given by their institution. See our information for UK university or college users for details.
Staff at UK institutions of UK HE/FE, can register with us using the username and password that institution given by their institution. See our information for UK university or college users for details.
Yes, non-UK academics can register with us and use our data. However you will first have to obtain a username and password from the UK Data Archive. Once these have been supplied to you, you can then register with the UK Data Service. See our information for non-UK users for details.
Each study has a Discover record and details of any restrictions will be found in the 'Access conditions' section.

UK Data Archive users may have issues accessing the UK Data Service between 07.00 and 11.45 on Tuesday 14 July. This only applies if your username was issued to you by the UK Data Archive and begins with 'ukd'.
UKDS.Stat: Please note that UKDS.Stat may be unavailable from 08.00 until 12.00 on Wednesday 15 July.
