Using large-scale survey data for research

A one-day training event organised by the UK Data Service.

This workshop is aimed at those with little or no experience in the secondary analysis of survey data available from the UK Data Service. It will introduce attendees to the skills required to find and access survey data from the UK Data Service and to carry out basic secondary analyses with the survey data.

The workshop will comprise a series of presentations and practical computing sessions using SPSS and will cover the following:

  • introduction to the survey data available from the UK Data Service
  • finding and accessing data on the UK Data Service website
  • exploratory analyses (e.g. frequencies, tables, missing values)
  • working with files (e.g. hierarchical files, merging files, linking files)
  • weighting the data

Pre-requisite: some experience of using SPSS
