We are seeking a Service Director for Census,
UK Data Service. You will have a central and senior leadership role within the
UKDS with overall strategic and operational responsibility for census data
within the service, while pursuing an academically excellent independent
research agenda in census research at the Cathie Marsh Institute.
In this senior role you will be expected to be the public
face for census at high level external meetings, committees and events. It is
an exciting opportunity to help shape the UK’s data landscape in the run-up to
the 2021 UK censuses.
The post forms part of the senior management team of the UK
Data Service (comprising a Strategic Leadership Group and five Service
Directors) and involves liaison with major external stakeholders, and people
who contribute to the census team from across the Universities of Essex, Edinburgh,
Southampton, UCL and Jisc.
The UK Data Service is a flagship ESRC investment, providing
national infrastructure for suppliers and users of the UK’s world-leading data
resources for social and economic research. We address the requirements of the
major stakeholders of the service, from data selection and ingestion to
providing access, support and training, in an increasingly complex data
environment. The service is strategically important to the UK social science
community and is crucial for researchers.
The UK Data Service is delivered by staff with special expertise in
research data based at universities across the UK. As well as CMI, these
include the University of Essex, Jisc, Edinburgh, University of Southampton and
University College London.
