Data Access and Use Assistant
Duties of the role
The UK Data Service is seeking to appoint a Data Access and Use Assistant to support the UK Data Service’s Helpdesk and data access operations. The post holder will have responsibility for checking and processing access requests, including those that require depositor permission. The post holder will also assist the other Data Access and Use Assistants in answering user queries and supporting users through the registration, finding, online browsing, ordering, and download procedures. They will also process registration applications and assist with all aspects of data access.

Senior User Support and Training Officer
Duties of the role
Duties of the post will mostly involve answering queries from researchers who access data from the UK Data Service holdings. For example, these could be to make recommendations to researchers on the most appropriate data sources for their work, helping those researchers to use our resource discovery and analysis tools, and facilitating access to sensitive sources of data in our Secure Lab environment. The post holder will also work with other teams within the UK Data Archive where required to develop new resources based on our data holdings.

Web Developer (Smart Energy Research Lab)
Duties of the role
The web portal you will be helping deliver is the Smart Energy Research Lab, a multi-million pound five year big data project with a national profile, which will ingest smart meter data from tens of thousands of UK households.
The purpose of this role is to build and optimise the front-end infrastructure based on UX/UI designs set by the repository architect in response to researcher requirements. In doing so, the post holder will also work closely with other developers in the team to acquire the necessary skills to manipulate data from ElasticSearch and Hadoop clusters at the back-end in a microservices environment, taking an active role in how the application functions as well as in how it looks.
This post holder will be responsible for:
- Ensuring the technical feasibility of UI/UX designs for the Smart Meter Energy Lab.
- Building reusable code and libraries for future use.
- Rapid prototyping of new features and amending them in response to user feedback.
- Developing and suggesting new user-facing features.
- Optimizing web applications for maximum speed and scalability.
