A new term – data resources for students and lecturers

A new term is coming, and the UK Data Service can help you with a range of resources to help your data-related teaching.

New teaching datasets

We have launched two new datasets this year:

You can find out more about our teaching datasets on our website, including a spreadsheet listing all teaching datasets.

New teaching resource: Quantitative methods e-books

Lecturers and students can use these new quantitative methods e-books and quizzes for direct use in teaching or for self-study. Using the Living Costs and Food Survey, there is a practical and quiz element for each e-book topic:

  • Examining Continuous Variables in SPSS
  • Correlations in SPSS
  • Regression in SPSS
  • Multiple Regression in SPSS

We developed them in collaboration with National Centre for Research Methods and the Centre for Multi-Level Modelling at the University of Bristol, using StatJR software.

More teaching resources

There are other ideas for teaching on our website, including a teaching with data video tutorial.

Resources for students

Our introductory level interactive Data Skills Modules can help students get to grips with keys aspects of survey, longitudinal and aggregate data. Students can also visit the Student Resources section of our website for accessible information about our data collection and resources.

Britain by numbers

Designed for sixth form students, our Britain by numbers resources offer interactive and fun sessions for students to learn about quantitative data and skills. They include a quiz and hands-on activities to engage students in making hypotheses as well as analysing, visualising and interpreting data.

Our videos and webinars

Our YouTube channel contains an introductory video about the UK DataService, as well as 170 others on all aspects of our work, including

Data citation

We’ve also produced a video about the importance of citing data – why should you? And how?
