UK Data Service training services during Covid-19 (coronavirus) outbreak
The
UKDS will continue to run live webinar training courses as planned, and
these will continue to be advertised through Twitter @UKDataService and on the events page.
Face-to-face
training events will now be converted to online training events, where
possible. If there are any changes to training delivery in the future,
by signing up to an event, you will be notified of any cancellation as
far in advance as possible.
Safe Researcher Training via webinars
In
addition, with all face-to-face Safe Researcher Training postponed for
the time being, our Secure Lab experts will be
delivering Safe Researcher Training via webinars where possible, to
ensure researchers are still able to gain their accreditation required
to access secure data through the UK Data Service. Secure Lab users
will however not be able to access secure data remotely.
At
present the data controllers will not permit any remote access to
Secure Lab from home and the original requirements set out in the Secure
Access Agreement remain in force. Please see the email we sent all
Secure Lab users with more details.
Learning resources and teaching resources
While
this time is obviously challenging and uncertain, it also offers people
the opportunity to upskill and learn.
For example, the UK Data Service
website offers a number of resources for anyone who wants to get to
grips with key aspects of survey, longitudinal and aggregate data – a
good place to start are the introductory level interactive Data Skills Modules.
These can be explored in your own time and you are able to dip in and out
whenever you like. The modules give an introduction to key aspects of
the data, using short instructional videos, interactive quizzes and
activities using open access software where possible.
If you are teaching with data you can continue to access our online teaching resources, which include workbooks for learning quantitative methods, e-books
and statistical software, teaching materials using major archived
qualitative studies and datasets designed for teaching and learning.
These resources can be used for those teaching remotely as a
precaution during the Covid-19 outbreak.
There is also a vast amount of student resources to help students find out about the types of data, advice on getting started with their data research, FAQs and more.
In addition, the UK Data Service website offers users a wealth of free guidance and best practice and a variety of training webinars on-demand from our You Tube channel.
Stay safe and please make use of all the resources found on this website.
