Understanding Society Wave 10 data now available

Understanding Society has reached the milestone of 10 waves of data!

The latest release of the main survey dataset is available to download from the UK Data Service.
Wave 10 covers Understanding Society fieldwork that took place between
2009 and 2019. The dataset also includes the harmonised BHPS data from
1991, allowing researchers to analyse 29 years of rich household panel
data.

What’s in Wave 10?

Along with the core content that is carried in each wave of the
survey, Wave 10 includes a set of modules that are carried every two or
three waves. These include:

  • Material deprivation
  • Child deprivation
  • Pensioner deprivation
  • Commuting behaviour
  • Work conditions
  • Charitable giving
  • Voluntary work
  • Transport behaviour
  • Sleep quality

In the self-completion section of the survey respondents were asked about:

  • The party they voted for at the last general election
  • Physical and mental health
  • Life satisfaction
  • Loneliness
  • Gender attitudes
  • Environmental behaviour and attitudes

Youth Survey

The youth survey for Wave 10 includes rotating content on future
intentions, risky behaviour, religious identity, friendship groups and
