Do you use UK Business Surveys or ONS business data for your research?
Submissions are now open for the UK Business Data User Conference 2021.
This free conference, organised jointly by the UK Data Service and Office for National Statistics (ONS), will be held online on 21 September 2021. The event provides the opportunity for users to engage with producers of business statistics and to hear about and discuss priorities for the next few years.
The programme will feature a range of presentations from ONS, UK Data Service and researchers from across academia and government who have used UK secure data covering the areas of business, industry and trade.
Our key note speaker for the event is Donna Leong, Director of Economic Statistics Change at ONS, who will present on the aim and vision of the transformation programme, ARIES – Ambitious, Radical, Inclusive Economic Statistics. Participants will hear about changes to digital data collection, the development of new indicators, COVID-19 challenges, new business surveys and the use of administrative sources for measuring , for example, VAT; and what is coming next. There will also be talks from ONS covering updates to economic statistics.
Abstract submissions
We would like to invite offers of presentations based on analysis of ONS data addressing activities of businesses, trade and industry in the UK, covering the production and trade of goods and services, sales by retailers, characteristics of businesses, the construction and manufacturing sectors, and international trade. Please note that the UK Data Service annual Labour Force and Annual Population Surveys User Conference already covers use of LFS and APS data, and presentations based solely on these data will not be eligible.
Relevant business surveys and linked data available through controlled access at the UK Data Service Secure Lab and the ONS Secure Research Service (SRS) include the Annual Business Survey, Annual Respondents Database, Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings, Annual Inquiry into Foreign Direct Investment, Business Enterprise Research and Development Survey, Business Insights and Conditions Survey, Business Structure Database, Inter-Departmental Business Register (and linked data), linked administrative and external business data linked to the business surveys and more.
Please send offers of a paper, including your name, institution, a title, the business data you used, and an abstract of no more than 300 words (setting out the aims, methods and any challenges), to ukdstraining@manchester.ac.uk by midnight on Sunday 18 July. By submitting your abstract you are agreeing to your information being shared with our conference partners.
We will evaluate all abstracts and notify authors after the selection process. Presentations at the conference can be live or pre-recorded, however all presenters will be expected to attend the conference.
Conference booking is open. A detailed programme of presentations will be provided prior to the conference.
