Vanessa Higgins featured at the ISI World Statistics Congress in Ottawa

On 17 July, Vanessa Higgins, our Director of User Support and Training, presented a paper at the ISI World Statistics Congress in Ottawa, Canada. The paper offered new insights into how Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities (SHAPE) students participate in UK Data Service online data skills training events to enhance their data literacy.

Hosted by the International Statistical Institute (ISI), the ISI World Statistics Congress has been held every two years since 1887. This year’s event took place from 16 to 20 July and was the 64th edition of the congress. The full programme is available on the conference website.

In Vanessa’s words, “I was very privileged to be able to present my paper at this prestigious conference in the beautiful city of Ottawa. I’m always proud to showcase the UK Data Service’s training programme, but this presentation also gave exciting new results from qualitative research with students who attend our events. There is international recognition of a data skills gap and a need for more data skills training – the research project I presented highlighted the important role the UK Data Service plays in filling that gap.”
