Vacancy: Data Access Services Manager, UK Data Archive

The UK Data Archive is pleased to announce a vacancy for our Data Access Services Manager role. We are seeking an individual to lead and manage two areas of UK Data Service business; the User Helpdesk that deals with finding and accessing our data holdings, and our safe haven that provides controlled access to sensitive data, our Secure Lab.

Duties of the Role

You will be an experienced researcher or research manager with some background in data services, with a good practical understanding of data governance and data security. You will work with Service Directors to roll out access to administrative data under the Digital Economy Act, taking care of safe data protocols and putting smooth workflows in place.

The post holder is the Senior User for the Service’s user administrative system, administering appropriate governance, authorisation and authentication for the system, overseeing the production of metrics, and proposing improvements to the system as they arise. In addition, the role oversees the work of the Secure Lab maintaining operating procedures and safe data protocols and oversight of guidance around statistical outputs from research.

Qualifications and Skills required

Applicants are expected to possess a degree or equivalent (BA, BSc) or substantial professional experience.

You will have experience of managing processes, people and undertaking diplomatic relations with data owners and users. You should be able demonstrate capability in creating and managing policies and operating procedures around data governance and access. You will be a confident speaker and excellent communicator, expected to address all levels from students to senior civil servants, and have the ability to deliver training and creating your own materials.

Knowledge and practical expertise of working with administrative and/or survey data would be a great advantage.

Salary: £41,527 – £49,553 per annum (pro-rata for part-time)

Employment type: Fixed-term until 31 March 2021, due to funding, with a start date as soon as possible. Whilst this is a full-time post, we will consider a job share arrangement and would welcome applications for 0.5 to 0.6 FTE.
