Join us for a comprehensive one-day training event developed as part of the ADR UK (Administrative Data Research UK) - funded Ministry of Justice (MoJ) Data First programme in conjunction with UK Data Service. This course is designed to equip you with essential skills and knowledge in criminal justice administrative data research. By the end of the day, you will have gained:

  • Familiarity with the ADR UK MoJ Data First programme: Delve into its achievements to date and understand the MoJ Areas of Research Interest (ARI).
  • Navigating ethical use of licensed data: Understand the ethical considerations and responsibilities associated with using licensed data, ensuring compliance with legal and ethical standards.
  • Understanding of the access process: Learn the procedures and submission forms necessary to access, analyse, and disseminate findings from secure justice data and beyond.
  • Appreciation of administrative data in criminal justice: Develop a keen understanding of the advantages and limitations of using criminal justice administrative data.
  • Overview of ADR UK MoJ Data First criminal justice linked datasets: Explore the variable list and comprehend their potential for cross-cutting research and policy evaluation.
  • Hands-on training with synthetic datasets: Participate in practical training using low to medium fidelity criminal justice datasets based on indicative research questions.
  • Access to programme resources and contacts: Discover the ADR UK MoJ Data First programme resources and connect with the MoJ Data First team and ADR UK community panels to develop your own ADR UK MoJ Data First datasets-based projects in the future.

This course is ideal for Accredited Researchers or researchers looking to gain Digital Economy Act (DEA) Accreditation interested in utilising administrative data to advance criminal justice research and policy development.

Through a combination of theoretical learning and practical exercises, participants will leave with a robust understanding of the ADR UK MoJ Data First programme and the skills to effectively engage with its datasets.

Course requirements:

  • Participants must have had previous statistics training (at a minimum two statistics UG modules) and/or statistics professional expertise.
  • Spaces are allocated on a first come - first served basis. The registration deadline is 5pm, 8 November 2024.
  • Attendees are required to bring their own laptops with their preferred software installed. We will support queries related to SPSS, R, and Stata.
  • All attendees must be registered with the UK Data Service. Please see further registration information on our registration page.
  • Payment for the course will be taken via Eventbrite. Please use the ‘Book now’ button to access the course registration page.
  • Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
