UK Data Service launches survey on synthetic data – data owners are invited to take part

The UK Data Service, as part of a project funded by the Economic and Social Research Council, is calling on data owners to participate in a new survey aimed at exploring the readiness and perceptions of synthetic data production and dissemination.

About the project: Evaluating the benefits, costs and utility of synthetic data

Synthetic data, which are artificially generated data that can replicate the structure and statistical properties of real datasets, are becoming increasingly important in the fields of data sharing and privacy preservation besides others. The UKDS project aims to understand the current landscape of synthetic data production, identify challenges, and discover opportunities for scaling and improving its use across different sectors.

Why your participation matters

Data owners play a crucial role in the data ecosystem, and your input is vital for shaping the future of synthetic data practices. By sharing your experiences, challenges, and perspectives, you will contribute to creating recommendations that can help organisations better implement synthetic data, overcome technical and operational barriers, and maximise the benefits of this innovative approach.

Who should participate

This survey is intended for data owners and individuals who are responsible for data creation and management, including principal investigators, data managers, project managers, statisticians, and data architects. If you or your colleagues are involved in these areas, your participation would be greatly valued.

Survey details

  • Estimated Time to Complete: Approximately 25 minutes.

  • Anonymity: The survey is completely anonymous, and no personally identifiable information will be collected.

  • Deadline: Please complete the survey by 13 September 2024.

We invite all data owners and their teams to participate in our survey. Your insights will help shape the future of synthetic data production and dissemination, ensuring that it meets the needs of the research and data communities.
