The UK Data Service is one of the key sponsors of the 48th annual conference of IASSIST (the International Association for Social Science Information Service and Technology) which is taking place this year in Philadelphia, USA from 30 May to 2 June 2023.

The conference offers data professionals a unique opportunity to hear about the newest innovations in data management, from experts with internationally renowned expertise. Researchers and technicians from the UK Data Service will offer their insights into areas such as data access, governance and ethics, data documentation and reproducibility, data literacy and data management and archiving.

Diversity and social justice

The theme of the conference this year is Diversity in research: Social justice from data. Reflecting these ideas, two of our presentations explore the research possibilities and ethical challenges that have been opened up by the collection of data on gender identity and sexual orientation in the most recent UK census. The UK Data Service will be participating in the poster session, with presentations on data-based evidence of racial and social inequalities within the UK and efforts within the UK Data Archive and the University of Essex to increase diversity and inclusivity.
