Are you interested in learning how to code, but struggling to know where to start? Then join our Code Anxiety Club!
While there are lots of great learning materials online for new coders, setting up your computational environment is often a neglected step in most tutorials. This is despite the fact that it can be the biggest learning curve for new coders.
Setting up your computational environment involves learning key skills such as how to navigate the command line, locate file pathways, install software and select an appropriate coding editor or IDE. You might wonder how you can begin your first coding project if you don’t yet know how to do this.
To remedy this, we will be hosting four provisional livestream sessions where viewers can follow along as we work through common beginner topics. Each session will be 30 minutes long, and the first will be held at on Tuesday 27 May at 1pm. The full schedule is below:
- Introduction to the command line | 27 May – 1pm
- Opening Windows: Navigating IDEs vs. command line | 24 June – 1pm
- Where am I? Understanding file navigation | 22 July – 1pm
- Pathways to success: Mastering file pathways | 26 August – 1pm
No prior experience, installed software or setup is required. Your operating system doesn’t matter: we will cover Windows, Mac and a little Linux.
We will livestream the Code Anxiety Club workshops on YouTube where you can interact with us via the YouTube chat and ask any questions. But please note that you will need to be signed in to your YouTube account in order to post in the chat.
There’s no need to book a place, just follow the links above if you’d like to attend a session.
