World Digital Preservation Day at the UK Data Service

The UK Data Service joins the global digital preservation community in marking World Digital Preservation Day on 7 November. World Digital Preservation Day is held each year on the first Thursday of November to highlight the importance of digital preservation. This year’s event will celebrate the diversity of the communities around the world who help preserve digital content.

Digital preservation and the UK Data Service

Preservation is a key strategic pillar for the UK Data Service. We work to curate and actively preserve research data for long-term access, use and reuse. Our work with data producers ensures that data across the Service are richly documented, managed, curated, licensed and actively preserved, so that they remain findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable for the long-term.

As part of this year’s event, we are celebrating the UK Data Service’s participation in the CoreTrustSeal, as well as highlighting our work on developing metadata characteristics for CoreTrustSeal’s levels of curation and preservation. Blog posts exploring this topic can be found on our Data Impact blog, and a blog co-written with the CoreTrustSeal board features on the Digital Preservation Coalition website.
