Converting formats, structuring packages, and preparing release files

Technical preparation focuses on making research data technically suitable for long-term preservation and reuse. Files created during active research are often optimised for analysis or collaboration, rather than for sharing. Before deposit, data producers should review formats, file structures and content to create stable, release-ready versions of their data.

This stage does not involve reanalysing data. Instead, it ensures that data files can be opened, understood and reused by others, and that they meet repository and preservation requirements.
