Accessibility statement for Moodle
Accessibility statement for Moodle
This accessibility statement applies to UK Data Service training materials which are available on https://moodle.ukdataservice.ac.uk.
This website is run by the UK Data Service. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website.
For example, that means you should be able to:
- change colours, contrast levels and fonts using browser or device settings
- zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen.
We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.
AbilityNet has advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

Technical information about this website’s accessibility
The UK Data Service is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.
Compliance status
The website has been tested against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standard.
This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.
Non-accessible content
The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.
Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations
- Some pages have very low contrast between text and background colours, so people with low vision may have difficulty reading the text. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.4.3 (Contrast Minimum). We will correct the contrast issues on the pages where we have the ability to change colours and images. However, some colour contrast issues are not editable so we will contact the third-party software provider to alert them to the problem and request that they offer a solution.
- Some pages contain empty links, which can introduce confusion for keyboard and screen reader users. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.4.4 (Link Purpose (In Context)). We plan to correct the links within six months. When any further development to the website occurs, we’ll make sure the links meet accessibility standards.
- Some pages contain empty buttons which can introduce confusion for keyboard and screen reader users. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.1.1 (Non-text Content) and 2.4.4 (Link Purpose (In Context)). We will instruct our developers to fix this issue within six months. If they cannot, we will contact the third-party software provider.
- Some pages have missing form labels which can introduce confusion for keyboard and screen reader users. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.1.1 (Non-text Content), 1.3.1 (Info and Relationships), 2.4.6. (Headings and Labels) and 3.3.2 (Labels or Instructions). We will instruct our developers to fix these issues within six months. If they cannot, we will contact the third-party software provider.
- Some pages have a broken ARIA menu which can introduce confusion for keyboard and screen reader users. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.1.1 (Keyboard) and 4.1.2 (Name, Role, Value). We will instruct our developers to fix these issues within six months. If they cannot, we will contact the third-party software provider.
- Some pages contain empty headings, which can introduce confusion for keyboard and screen reader users. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.4.6 (Headings and Labels). We will instruct our developers to fix these issues within six months. If they cannot, we will contact the third-party software provider.
- Keyboard navigation is not fully supported on the some pages. In some sections, the tab order skips over interactive elements, meaning users may not be able to access all content using a keyboard. This fails WCAG 2.2 success criterion 2.4.3 (Focus Order). We will instruct our developers to fix these issues within six months. If they cannot, we will contact the third-party software provider.
What we’re doing to improve accessibility
We will be running regular accessibility checks and ensure that new content added to the website meets accessibility requirements.
