Course details:

This training course is designed to help you understand the sensitivities around using administrative data, how to handle such data safely, lawfully and responsibly.

The course takes one day and you will need to complete a test in the course room at the end of it. You will only be able to access data for which SURE accreditation is required after you pass the test.

The training was developed together with the UK Data Service and the Office for National Statistics.

It includes face-to-face training on:

  • the legislation relating to administrative data
  • data security and researchers’ responsibilities
  • disclosure control for outputs

Cost:

  • Free place for ADRC/ADS staff and researchers who have been allocated an ADRN PROJ number. If you select this option, you must wait for an additional confirmation by email from ADRC-S that your status has been validated.
  • £30 - For UK registered undergraduate and postgraduate students
  • £60 – For staff at UK academic institutions, ESRC funded researchers and registered charity organisations and other public sector bodies
  • £220 - For all other participants

The fees cover event materials, lunch, morning and afternoon tea.

Any travel and accommodation costs must be covered by the attendee.

Application process:

There are 20 places available.  Places will be allocated after applications are processed.

To apply for this training, a completed registration of interest should be
submitted by 12 noon on Tuesday 14 November 2017.  Successful applicants will be notified in advance and will be prompted to complete payment via the University of Edinburgh’s ePay system. Payment should not be made until you have received confirmation that you have been allocated a place on the course. Course fees are non-refundable.  In exceptional circumstances a refund may by permitted at the discretion of the Project Manager of ADRC-S.
