Does your charity or project struggle to find the data to demonstrate needs in your community or show the impact of your work? When you find the data do you have the skills to analyse them?
In July, the UK Data Service is running a series of three introductory online workshops aimed at supporting organisations in the third sector to access and use quantitative data relevant to their services and projects’ needs. All three workshops will be free to attend.
Workshop 1. Evidence and impact using census data
2 July 2020, 14.00 - 15.30
Exploring local area statistics using census data. Topics will include:
- What is aggregate data?
- Exploring the 2011 Census
- Finding local area statistics online
The workshop will include a mix of presentations, exercises and follow-up discussion. Participants will be given worksheets and use InFuse (free online tool) and Excel to explore local area statistics.
Workshop 2. Data skills: understanding survey data
9 July 2020, 14.00 - 15.30
An introduction to quantitative social data. Topics will include:
- Social survey design
- Carrying out secondary data analysis
- Using data: descriptive statistics, two-way analysis, simple charts
The workshop will include a mix of presentations, exercises and follow-up discussion. Participants will be given worksheets and use Nesstar (free online tool) to complete activities.
Workshop 3. Telling a story with data
16 July 2020, 14.00 - 15.30
Using social survey data to provide context to community need. Topics will include:
- Types of social surveys and key data available from the UK Data Service
- Registering and downloading data
- Exploring an area of interest with data
The workshop will include a mix of presentations, exercises and follow-up discussion. Participants will be given worksheets and use Nesstar (free online tool) to explore survey data.
