5. Privacy
Personal Data processing
The University of Essex is the data controller for the UK Data Service and has agreements with other partners who act as data processors. We only share your personal data either to provide our services or to comply with legislative, regulatory or contractual obligations.
We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your information responsibly. For details on how we collect, use, and store your data, please refer to our Privacy Statement.
This service also uses an external provider, which maintains its own Privacy Policy. You should review the provider’s Privacy Policy to understand how they process your data.
6. Cookies
Two cookies are used on the platform:
The essential one is the session cookie, usually called MoodleSession. You must allow this cookie in your browser to provide continuity and to remain logged in when browsing the site. When you log out or close the browser, this cookie is destroyed (in your browser and on the server).
The other cookie is purely for convenience, usually called MOODLEID or similar. It just remembers your username in the browser. This means that when you return to this site, the username field on the login page is already filled in for you. It is safe to refuse this cookie – you will just have to retype your username each time you log in.
We use Matomo Analytics to understand how our website is used and to improve your experience. This tool gathers limited information about the device you use to access the UK Data Service website. To learn more, please see our Privacy Statement.
7. Service availability and Platform content
We aim to keep the Platform reliable and up to date, but we cannot guarantee uninterrupted access, and the service may occasionally be unavailable due to maintenance, technical issues, or other factors beyond our control.
By using the Platform you are agreeing that we are not liable or responsible for any losses, damages, or harm arising from downtime, interruptions, or any unavailability of the service.
We may modify or remove content, features, or services at any time, and we do not guarantee that any specific content, features, or service will remain available.
Disclaimer
We make all reasonable efforts to ensure that the content of the Platform is accurate and up to date, but do not accept responsibility for omissions, errors or subsequent changes. Our materials represent the position at the time of uploading. The content may become out of date and may be superseded by changes in legislation, policy, theory and practice.
